TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The state scheduled the
executions of two veteran death row inmates for early May after Gov.
Jeb Bush signed their death warrants.
Wayne Tompkins is set to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. May 1
for a 1983 murder of a 15-year-old girl. Gregory Mills is scheduled
to die by lethal injection the next day for a 1979 murder of a
70-year-old man.
Tompkins, 44, was condemned for the strangulation of Lisa DeCarr,
who disappeared from her Tampa home. Her remains were found in a
shallow grave under her home more than a year later. Tompkins was
her mother's boyfriend.
Mills, 43, was condemned for the 1979 murder of James Wright,
fatally shot during a burglary of his home in Seminole County.
Bush signed their warrants last week.
