RESOLVED MURDER CASES RECENT DNA INQUIRIES BY THE BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE, FORT LAUDERDALE POLICE AND THE BROWARD STATE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE HAVE REVISITED OLD MURDER CASES FROM NORTHWEST FORT LAUDERDALE USING NEW TECHNOLOGY. THESE CASES HAVE BEEN RESOLVED USING DNA TESTING:

Naomi Gamble, 15, raped and strangled July 19, 1973. Jerry Frank Townsend was convicted in 1980. Last week, DNA testing by the BSO linked the slaying to Eddie Lee Mosley.

Terry Cummings, 20, murdered and raped Aug. 7, 1979. Townsend pleaded no contest to the murder in 1982. Last week, DNA testing by the BSO linked the slaying to Mosley.

Vetta Turner, 34, raped and strangled, found July 9, 1973. April DNA review by Fort Lauderdale police linked the slaying to Mosley.

Sonja Marion, 13, raped and murdered July 27, 1979. Charges against Townsend were dropped in 1982. October DNA review by Fort Lauderdale police linked the slaying to Mosley.

Teresa Giles, 22, whose body was found Dec. 18, 1984 in unincorporated Broward. DNA results released Wednesday link the murder to Mosley.

Shandra Whitehead, 8, raped and beaten, died in May 1985. Frank Lee Smith given the death penalty in 1986. Smith was posthumously exonerated through DNA testing, which linked the murder to Mosley.
